Well in less than 24 hours after massive public backlash Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has repealed the law requiring political commentators to publish their full name and post code.

South Australian Government gags internet debate

The South Australian Government has enacted a law requiring anyone wanting to comment on the upcoming election to post their full name and post code. They argue this is does not impinge on free speech how ever the right to post under a pseudonym is up held by federal law and considered a fundamental need for whistle blowers and those with contrary views that could face retribution.
However the South Australian government obviously has no idea how the internet works as anybody could type in any name they like it seems. The government could then require sites to store the ip address used to access the site but then that could be circumvented by using a public computer / hotspot or anonymising services like tor (torproject.org). However that is not the point as this law will likely scare away non-technical users not aware of such services.
