SA MP Seeks Burkha Ban in Banks
A private member’s bill to ban women from wearing a burka in some circumstances in South Australia has been introduced by Independent MP Bob Such.
Dr Such says his parliamentary motion would only ensure a person’s face is uncovered where security is an issue, such as in a bank.
Very sensible, too. Motorcycle helmets are not allowed to be worn in banks, so a full body-tent with obscuring facial grill should CERTAINLY not be tolerated!
“I don’t care whether it’s a hoodie, whether it’s a balaclava, whether it’s a bike helmet or part of a burka. The key issue is can you identify that person? Do they meet the security requirements where that is an issue?” he said.
I (MKG) had been in touch with Bob Such some weeks ago, to make sure that the proposed legislation does not disallow those who are required to wear face-coverings (such as facial burns victims) from entering banks. He said he would take this involuntary disguise into account during drafting.
