Bishop of Bruges quits after admitting abuse

Pope Benedict has accepted the resignation of the bishop of the Belgian city of Bruges after he admitted that he sexually abused a boy earlier in his career.

Roger Vangheluwe says the abuse began when he was a priest and continued for a time after he was appointed as a bishop.

His admission is the latest in a string of damning accounts of paedophilia which have rocked the Roman Catholic Church.

The Archbishop of Belgium, Andre-Joseph Leonard, announced the resignation saying it marks a new chapter in their handling of the crisis.

“The decision of the Archbishop of Bruges as well as the decision to hold this press conference, corresponds to the transparency that the Catholic Church in Belgium wants to rigorously apply by resolutely turning the page on the not-so-distant past, where the Church as well as in other areas preferred the option of silence and camouflage,” he said.

It seems that every single Catholic Priest has at some stage committed sexual offences against minors.

What enrages me, and should enrage anyone with a functioning sense of justice, is that these PERVERTED CRIMINALS are not prosecuted.
Even after they admit to being kiddy-rapists!!
