Sydney Archbishops use Easter to flat-out Lie about atheism
Jensen repeats just about every know lie and canrd about atheists in short order.
Religious leaders have used their Good Friday sermons to launch an attack on what they call a recent surge in atheism.
Sydney Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen told his congregation atheism is not the rational philosophy that it claims to be.
Dr Jensen told the congregation that atheism is as much of a religion as Christianity.
[Edited to reflect truth, thanks 'sceptic pete'!]
His comments were mirrored by the Catholic Bishop of Parramatta, Anthony Fisher:
[/Edit]
Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating: Nazism, Stalinism, Pol Pot-ery, mass murder, abortion and broken relationships – all promoted by state-imposed atheism
- Fisher
Atheist Foundation president David Nicholls says the comments are an act of desperation by the church.
and I agree.
In his sermon, Dr Jensen said the passion of its followers shows atheism a religion in itself.
The shameless LIARS!!
They know this stuff that they spew over the congregation is utterly false, but these folk have negative morals.
It makes me sick. They out-Nixon Nixon!

Peter Jensen did not say this.
This is very poor journalism.

If he, indeed, did not make that statement, then I agree that it is very poor journalism, (on behalf of the ABC correspondent).
Firstly, how do you know that he didn’t say this?
Secondly, are you able to provide a corrected transcript, please?
I am keen to get to the heart of this matter.
ABC journalists need to be held to account if they are publishing fantasy as the directly quoted words of an individual.

Well I’m almost positive that the comment in question was made by the Bishop of Paramatta.

In fact the very article you quoted from is quite clear as to who made which statement.

The Anglican Archbishop’s comments were mirrored by the Catholic Bishop of Parramatta, Anthony Fisher.
In his Easter address, he said Christianity has proved to be both vulnerable and hardy in the last century.
“Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating: Nazism, Stalinism, Pol Pot-ery, mass murder, abortion and broken relationships – all promoted by state-imposed atheism,” he said.
“[It's] the illusion that we can build a better life without God.”

Thankyou very much for this unpaid legwork, and highlighting my slip-up that was caused by my not paying sufficient attention to the original.
I shall amend my article forthwith that it was not Jensen who spouted these particular egregious lies, but a special set of his own lies.
At least I know that some smart people actually read my bumf!

no problem
I am most certainly on your side.
